Starting Early on your New Year's Resolutions

Starting Early on your New Year's Resolutions

New Years is right around the corner, and you know what that means; NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS! Whether it pertains to weight loss, adding muscle, or just being healthier in general, it seems like every year the most popular resolutions are fitness related. Why postpone your resolutions to New Year’s when you can start today? I know it can be hard with Christmas coming up and all the food and temptations that come with it, but there are plenty of ways to get a jump start on being healthier. I would say the most common mistake is thinking that you have to be perfect and go all-in initially to be able to reach your goals. This is simply not true, there are plenty of small aspects of your daily life that you can change very easily. Today, I will be going over some of the minute changes that you can make that will give you a head start on your New Year’s goals in three separate categories: Fitness, nutrition, and supplementation.

Working out:

There are plenty of ways to begin your workout routine.  The obvious first choice is to get a gym membership. If you already have one, great! You’ve already made your first steps! Like stated before, you don’t have to be a hardcore gym-rat or intense lifter to start attending. Start small and focus on your own journey. If you can only make it to the gym twice a week, that’s perfectly fine! Even if it’s a short 20-minute workout, it’s a start. 20 minutes is better than no minutes. If you’re just getting back into the gym, begin with full body workouts to get your body accustomed to the workload. If you don’t have a gym membership or don’t want to invest in one yet, that’s perfectly fine. There are plenty of home-workouts that you can do until you are ready to take the next step and join a gym. There are many workout routines and home workout routines that you can find from various sources all over the internet. Last but not least, never forget to set goals for yourself. Get as specific as you want to, because if you go into the gym with no goals or direction, you’ll be lost and never truly achieve what you have set out to.

Nutrition:

I understand that nutrition is probably the most difficult aspect of health and fitness to control during the Christmas holidays. There are many small things that can be done to halt some of the weight gain that is expected during this time of the year. Again, starting with something small can make a big difference in the steps that you take to start your journey to a healthier you. Eliminating sugary drinks is a huge step. Stick to solely drinking water, trust me. Another good step can be to stop eating fast food. These steps are very simple, and don’t take anything away from your holiday feasts! Supplementation:

I know the holidays are always a time where you want to save your money for gifts for your friends and family. So dishing out money on supplements doesn’t seem like it should be high on your priority list. Don’t worry, this time of year brings about plenty of deals so you won’t have to break the bank to get what you need. What you need is going to be very dependent on your goals. I’ve compiled a list of 3 basic items that everyone should have no matter their goals. Item number one is going to be a Multivitamin. Multivitamins provide a multitude of positive effects on the body. These effects include: improving short term memory, boosting energy levels, maintaining muscle strength, enhancing weight loss, detoxifying your body and many more. One of my personal favorites for multivitamins is Multi Elite by CTD Sports. This product comes from natural sources and is packed with antioxidants, digestive enzymes, and phyto nutrients. The second item you should be buying is a fish oil. Fish Oil provides just as many benefits as a multivitamin. Fish oils contain omega 3 fatty acids, whose most important elements are EPA and DHA. Some of the main benefits of fish oils are: supporting a healthy cholesterol levels, bone health support, and mood support. Fish oils are also known as brain food because it has shown to help with depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, migraines, epilepsy and many more. In short, fish oils can aid in almost every area of your health. Feel free to check out our collection of fish oils. The third and final item I am going to list as essential to your supplementation is protein. Protein is definitely a staple of working out and maintaining a healthy diet. Most people’s diets consist of too many carbs and fats and not enough protein. So by supplementing with protein, you can make sure that you reach your optimum amount of protein levels throughout the day. Protein will also aid in recovery and prevent muscle depletion after your workouts. During your workouts you break down your muscles (which are made of proteins) and the protein after your workout will aid in the rebuilding of your broken down muscles. The type of protein you purchase is going to depend on your particular goals. If you are wanting to lose weight, then I would recommend a lean whey protein or a blend, such as Syntha 6, Isolicious, Iso-100, or Combat by Muscle Pharm. If you are wanting to gain weight or put on size, I would suggest a Mass Gainer. I really like Mass XL by Muscle Pharm, Super mass gainer, or Serious Mass. These products are going to have additional carbs and calroies in them in order for you to really put on a good amount of size and weight.
